About the Books...

There are various steps in the book printing and binding process, causing it to be imperative that all orders are submitted in full. This means they are formatted properly, files are completed and printed out (with proper page alignment) in order to place book order. If files need to be changed, system time ($85 per hour) will apply. If system time is needed we will need to know upon order submission.

We offer book tests to determine how closely we can match a provided sample, show the overall quality of the provided file and verify all print instructions. If the test is refused, there will be no redo or refund if the books are returned based solely on color or the original file being of low quality. Please be advised that unless specific instructions are given, our printers will focus on skin tone as opposed to other aspects of the image. Once a proof has been viewed, any changes or additions to a layout will also count as system time and be charged appropriately.

File Requirements for Short Run books

All books printed must some where include the words "printed by A&I Photographic".  If this text is not added we will add it in the place we find most attractive to the book content.

All files must be flattened and/ or embedded. 

JPEGs

  1. Please submit your files at the size you would like to print at 300 dpi.  Ex: If you’re printing an 8.5x11 book, please make each page 8.5x11 at 300 dpi. 
  2. Allow 1/8” border to make sure no text or image is cut off.
  3. When creating reader spreads, please number the files with the page numbers starting with 001. 
  4. Be aware that there is ¼” gutter in the center of the book.  If you place text in this area it may not be visible.
  5. Color profiles are sRGB

PDFs from Indesign

        Setup:      

  1. Create desired page print size.
  2. Indicate cut marks allowing 1/8” border to make sure no text or image is cut off
  3. Create completed layout including text and images  
  4. Make PDF presets PDF/X1 or Press Quality.

The spine width will depend on the kind of paper chosen.  The formula for the spine is # of pages divided by 2 multiplied by X, if x is the paper type.
